We think we are civilised! We are dirty.

Soon my town will be converted into a City, but is it ready? Are we redy? Is this City status for real or is it just politically motivated, the people thinking that we have progressed, and that we are already are advanced? Look closely, is a City status just a sham?.

We want to look civilise, so we built pavements. Is this what the town folks get after about 1 year now?

Right smack in the centre of my town the long uncut grass, the rubbish all over the places, the dirty stalls next to the ribbish and the smelly drain. How do people tolerate all these, how do they eat the food at the stalls, don't they have sensitive noses?

They can hardly tell the difference between a flower pot and a rubbish bin. Its a rubbish bin now, a broken rubbish bin. Its a public amenity, a mean of beautifying the town but do the public care?.

And this guy, putting his rubbish on the road where the traffic is quite heavy. What id a vehicle runs over them won't it be a mess? Not his problem I suppose. Such stupid attitude ....... selfish.

These back streets are nothing to be proud of. Maybe they are cleaned once in a while, but can't they clean them more often? And the rats in these streets, they are half the size of a normal cat. Wish I can take photographs of these rats.

There is still hope.......................!

Yesterday I was pretty annoyed with the state of being in Kuantan Town (Malaysia) (http://uglysyde.blogspot.com/2006/08/you-dont-want-to-but.html) but this morning I took a different route for my morning walk.

The surau (small masjid) on the fringe of the town is neglected but at least it got a sign board.

The big drain behind the town is overgrown, grass seems never cut but the big water pipes are still intact and frsh treated water still flows well into the town.

The other side of the big drain, overgrown but water still flowing in the drain towards the sea. In fact one can see fishes in the not so clear drain water. And at high tide this drain holds the tide water from the sea, preventing flooding of the surrounding areas.

Abandoned houses, but one can still see signs of activities nearby. All is not totally lost.

And a quaint little street hidden from view, at the back of the town. Old houses still well maintained (you can see someone sweeping in front of a house) and certain houses have been renovated, someone building big bunglow houses where some old terrace houses used to stand.

Do we really care? I suppose we do some time.

You don't want to.............. but.........

You don't want to see them but you cannot help it. They were there.
These images were taken this early morning when I was strolling in Kuantan Town.
And I don't buy any excuse from them. The scenes that I don't want to see.

But give them credit, they do try to look after your health by trying to get rid of Aedes Mosquitoes which spread Dengue Fever.
Hey, what about all the big rats in town, how do one gets rid of them, or even control them?

Fallen tree

It happened in my neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur a few days ago when a mango tree fell down due to strong wind and heavy rain and blocked the road near my house. The neighbours helped to clear the road and DBKL (City Hall) came to help. The rubbish was supposed to be collected by the rubbish collecting contractor hired by City Hall. Unfortunately the rubbish collecting contractor takes a few days (maybe longer) to come and collect the rubbish. And some unfriendly neighbours decided that where the cut leaves and branches are, a convenient place to place his/her garden rubbish. Most assumptious! Lukily he/she put her garden rubbish nicely in plastic bags.

Bad attitude

Its the bad atitude that people have that dirties the place. This picture was take a couple of months ago at a flat belonging to Kuala Lumpur City Hall rented to people at a very cheap price of about RM 124.00 a month (USD 1.00 = RM 3.75 now), 3 small rooms with toilet facilities, bathroom, kitchen and lifts. 13 storeys I think. What was happening here, this guy had got all sorts of rubbish in his car (plastic bags and all), and when parked at the flats parking space he decided to rid the rubbish from his car. What other convenient spot than just throwing the rubbish out of the doors of his car. (You can see where his car was parked - no rubbish seen). Anyone watching? Maybe, but no one cares - they are probably in the same boat.

Very early in the morning, before the sun rises. Rubbish at the bus stand. Probably by late night commuter. Why couldn't someone put the rubbish in the rubbish bin?

public park

Someone must have an ejoyable picnic in a public park at the weekend. But the rubbish, shameful - just thrown about. The public park is not so well looked after anyway, a casuarina tree fell in the lake and not removed and the notice board vandalised and not repaired. And the number of "do not do" things that you have to abide by -- its a wonder even why people visit the park at all.

Car rubbish dumping.

A typical scene of couldn't careless attitude. Throwing paper and tissue (and sometimes rubbish) out of your car. Why can't they bring an empty plastic bag, and throw all their rubbish into that plastic bag and bring the rubbish home or to the nearest rubbish bin? This scene is on the outskirt of KL, and the car owner is most probably living in the condo nearby.
Worse scenerio is during fruit seasons where you see children (and adults) throwing the fruit skins out of car windows while the car is travelling (and sometimes the car stopping by the road side). And worse when you visit a picnic spot (in Malaysia); they seem to think that the spot is also their rubbish dumping ground, (with PVC and polystryene bags and boxes thrown all over).
Most deplorable.

outskirt rubbish

Rubbish gathered near an apartment block. And its in the outer skirt of Kuala Lumpur! What are the rubbish collectors doing? Or can't the authority place a rubbish collecting bin there?

And the landslide in front of that apartment block! Damaging the covered bus-stand. Its in everybody's view.

Need a rubbish bin

Why can't the Municipal Council provides a proper rubbish bin? The rubbish had been dumped there not only now but for ages, and the funny thing is that the Municipal Council contractor's lorries collect these rubbish periodically - weekly I think. Meanwhile flies breed.
